Financing Your Academic Goals
Major changes are coming for federal financial aid in 2026-2027
Recent federal legislation has resulted in significant changes to Federal Student
Aid programs
beginning with the 2026–27 academic year.
Please note: Information on this page is subject to change as additional federal
guidance and regulations are released.
At this time, if you have recently completed a 2026-27 FAFSA, your FAFSA status will
not be updated to Received on your MyGBC Dashboard.
The federal government is making changes to the FAFSA files sent to schools, and we anticipate receiving FAFSAs again by late-June.
NOTE: This does not affect your financial aid or FAFSA for summer 2026.
Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loan amounts each semester will be
prorated based on a percentage of full-time enrollment.
If you attend less than full-time
for a semester or term, you will receive only a portion of the loan eligibility you
would
otherwise have if you attended full-time.
Students who receive grants, scholarships, and/or benefits from non-federal sources
that cover their entire Cost of Attendance (COA) are ineligible to receive a Pell
Grant,
even if otherwise eligible for the program.
An education at Great Basin College is one of the most potentially rewarding investments you may make in your lifetime, and it can be more affordable than you imagine.
GBC has many resources to assist you in funding your studies. The most desirable forms of financial aid for students are scholarships, and federal grants, which do not need to be repaid. Another option is a federal student loan, which will need to be repaid with interest. Federal Parent Loans are another financial avenue. Veterans may be entitled to additional benefits.
If you receive financial aid at GBC, you will need to maintain Satisfactory Progress during the course of your studies. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these academic standards.
In addition, GBC's Career Center can assist you in finding a regular job in the community and provides an online list of jobs currently open for GBC students.
