Position Description
Photogrammetrist/Cartographers perform remote sensing work in the preparation of contour maps, terrain models, profile sheets; digital animated fly-through and related mapping materials which require the application of photogrammetric or cartographic techniques. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Location Division, Survey and Mapping Section in Carson City. Incumbent will perform remote sensing work requiring strong photogrammetric, survey and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills; be responsible for the development of UAV technology and image processing; aerial survey mission planning and camera operation; digital and hard copy imagery products; orthophoto production; Digital Terrain Model (DTM) creation; Dense Surface Model (DSM) generation; maintenance of the imagery GIS database; precise 3D model development from various sources, including LiDAR, close range photogrammetry, aerial imagery, CAD and GIS; fly through animation production. These duties are performed using specialized software including Photogrammetry software, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Graphic Art

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in photogrammetry, cartography, physical science, geography, civil engineering, or related field; OR an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in photogrammetry, cartography, physical science, geography, mapping, surveying, civil engineering, or related field and one year of experience which included completing digital map files from aerial photography and survey data and operating manual and computerized photogrammetric or cartographic equipment; OR graduation from high school and two years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. We will also help them get their Part 107 commercial drone license, so they do not need to have it before applying.

Job Description:
The University of Montana (UM) Ecological Mapping, Monitoring, and Analysis (EMMA) group is partnering with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to implement their Aquatic Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) strategy. This protocol is targeted at collecting standardized inventory and long-term hydrologic and biological data at multiple scales across BLM Districts in the Western U.S.
We are currently recruiting Technicians and Riparian Botanists with experience in fisheries, hydrology, ecology, and/or botany for data collection in Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming from April through August/September (exact dates vary by project, see below).
The field crews will consist of a Crew Lead, Technician, and Riparian Botanist. All crews will be supported by Crew Managers and other professional EMMA staff. We ask seasonal staff to commit to the entire field season, practice safety awareness, and contribute to building a healthy, productive, and enjoyable work environment.
All positions are field-based and require primitive camping. Crews work eight consecutive 10-hour days, followed by a 6-day break, in all kinds of weather, and frequently must navigate sketchy roads or carry awkward and heavy equipment across uneven terrain to access a site. The wadeable streams sampled range from a few inches deep to fast-flowing small rivers that require good balance and a willingness to be waist or chest deep in water.
Locations and Available Positions
Crews will be based out of a BLM field office. Below are the anticipated locations of the base cities and timeline of work. All start dates are dependent on BLM trainings. Positions are filled on a rolling basis.
NEVADA: Elko and Carson City, NV working in central, eastern, and southern Nevada. Work will begin on April 15th with the BLM training in Sierra Vista, AZ and continue until all points are completed, which is estimated to be late July to early August.
Available Positions: 1 lead (Elko); 2 technicians (1 Carson City; 1 Elko); 1 Riparian Botanist (1 Elko)
WYOMING: Lander, WY working in central, west, and southwestern Wyoming. Work will begin on May 13th with a BLM training in Casper, WY and continue until all points are completed, which is estimated to be early to mid-September.
Available Positions: 1 Riparian Botanists (1 Lander)
IDAHO: Boise, ID. Sampling will occur across the southern portions of western (Boise) and the northern central portion of Idaho near Lewiston. Work will begin on June 3rd with the BLM training in Challis, ID and continue until all points are completed, which is estimated to be late September.

Requirements:
Aquatic Monitoring Field Technician:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries, Hydrology, Water Resources or related subject. Experience may be substituted for up to two years of education.
- A minimum of one season of field data collection. Several lab courses with extensive field work can satisfy this requirement. However, preference will be given to people who have collected aquatic or hydrologic data in a work setting.
Riparian Botanist:
- A Bachelors Degree or higher in Botany, Ecology, Range Science, Wetland Ecology or closely related subject. Coursework in Plant Taxonomy and/or Systematics with additional training in wetland/riparian plant identification is preferred. Herbarium experience or extensive horticultural experience may substitute for coursework.
- A minimum of one full season of botany field work
- Ability to identify riparian species using dichotomous keys
- Botanists without wide experience in the West or in riparian environments are still encouraged to apply.
- Good familiarity with commonly accepted plant nomenclature.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A basic understanding of how field protocols are used to conduct sampling and field data collection at assessment and monitoring sites.
- Experience with data entry and management using personal computers or tablets. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and preferably with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123.
- Experience navigating and collecting coordinates with hand-held GPS units.
- Experience with using Google Earth or GIS to examine aerial imagery.
- Experience driving and maintaining 4WD trucks and other vehicles, especially on rough and unmaintained roads. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (DUI or other serious convictions need not apply).
- Demonstrated ability to work productively as part of a team to accomplish mutual goals and to work independently as required.
- Experience in and willingness to spend multiple days camping in the field where multiple hazards (snakes, bears, deadfall, lightning, poison ivy, fires, etc.) may be encountered.
- Willingness to work irregular hours in harsh environments and challenging weather and carry 40-50 pounds in a backpack over uneven terrain.

- Act as the liaison between the customer, insurance company, and parts vendors to ensure the repair process goes smoothly and is completed correctly.
