English as a Second Language (ESL)

Our ESL program serves students whose primary language is not English and who wish to improve their English language skills. These new skills will help you to better function in your community and prepare you for academic coursework.

The ESL program at GBC will help you:

  • Develop communication skills
  • Reach academic goals, such as High School Equivalency prep and College classes.
  • Enhance job skills so that you can obtain a job or receive a promotion.
  • Build self-confidence, so that you can participate in your community while reaching your personal goals.

We offer three levels of listening, speaking, reading and writing classes. They are:

  • Beginning
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced

We also offer classes in reading, phonics and transition to HSE or College. While in class, you will learn about American culture and traditions, survival skills – such as filling out job applications, making appointments and calling for emergency assistance.
