BuildNV Core Construction Program

The BuildNV Core Construction Program is an 80-hour program designed to train workers in construction, building maintenance, related trades in our communities, and career technical education, helping to address some much-needed workforce challenges. View the brochure here!

Workforce challenges are identified by industries across Nevada. Many in our communities are looking for alternatives to a traditional college education for career opportunities. Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority (NNRDA), Great Basin College (GBC), JOIN Inc., Nevada Builders Alliance, Lithium Nevada and other community leaders have worked together to design workforce training options addressing needs in our diverse communities.

Work on this program began in the fall of 2019 through the founding efforts of Desert Research Institute Nevada Stem Networks, Nevada Builders Alliance, Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority, Lithium Nevada and Great Basin College. BuildNV quickly expanded to a broad coalition of communities, businesses and organizations recognizing the need for a skilled trades workforce in rural Nevada and an organized, accredited program to deliver training. COVID-19 accelerated the need for the program and emphasized the need to bring this to rural communities. Classes will be delivered using best practices for the COVID-19 era.

• Curriculum certified by NCCER - National Center for Construction Education and Research. www.nccer.org
• Core curriculum class covers Basic Safety, Communication Skills, Intro to Construction Drawings, OSHA 10 Certification.
• Program can grow and adapt to provide over 70 classes and numerous certifications.
• This initial 80-hour program can be delivered in full day classes, evening and/or weekends as needed.
• Can be adapted to the specific needs of a community or employer.
• Once launched, it is intended to be self-sustaining through student and sponsored tuition. Some level of continued support will be needed as we expand to additional communities.
