Notifying Faculty of Accommodations: Student Guide

All students registered with the DRC must use the Accessible Information Management (AIM) portal to notify instructors of accommodations and begin the interactive process. Accommodations are not retroactive, so early proactive communication with faculty is essential. The DRC recommends that students send accommodation requests to faculty as soon as accommodations have been approved and the student has enrolled in classes. Instructions on how to do this are found below:

  1. Log into the AIM portal using your official GBC email and password. Please note: your GBC email is your school-issued email ending in “gbcnv.edu.” If you are unsure of how to access your GBC email, please contact the GBC HelpDesk by phone at 775-327-2170 or by email at helpdesk@gbcnv.edu.
  2. Once you are logged in, you will see your dashboard, which will show “No Accommodation Requests Found.” Graphic showing Dashboard, which will display “No Accommodation Requests Found.” message.
  3. Proceed to “Step 1: Select Class(es),” under “Select Accommodations for Your Class” on the lower half of the page. To begin the notification process, check the box next to each class that you would like to use your accommodations in. Please note that your courses will only display if you are officially registered for them. Once you’ve selected your classes, click “Continue to Customize Accommodations.”
  4. Once you’ve selected your classes, click “Continue to Customize Accommodations.” graphic showing step to select your classes, click “Continue to Customize Accommodations.”
  5. On the next screen, you will see all the classes you have selected. Here you can select which accommodations you want to use in each class. As a reminder, you are not required to use all or any of your accommodation in all your classes. Only those that you select here will be visible to your professors.
  6. For each class, check the box next to any accommodation that you want to use in that specific class.
  7. Once you’ve made your choices, click “Submit Your Accommodation Requests.” Note: If you click “Back to Overview” you will be taken back to your dashboard and your choices will not be submitted.Graphic depicting Once you’ve made your choices, how to click “Submit Your Accommodation Requests.”
  8. After you submit, you will be taken back to your dashboard where you will see an update stating, "The system has successfully processed your request." This means the accommodations you selected have been sent to your instructors.Graphic depicting "The system has successfully processed your request." 9. After sending accommodations, make sure to reach out to your instructors as soon as possible to discuss implementation.
