Starfish is a tool designed to enhance the way we work across campus to help students be successful by fostering communication and connection between GBC instructors, students, advisors, and support services. Starfish is an early-alert retention tool that works through WebCampus to support student academic success at GBC. Through Starfish, faculty can inform students of their academic performance within a course and connect students to appropriate support resources.
Starfish provides instructors another way to keep students up to date with their class performance and provides student support staff with a means to better assist students who may be facing academic difficulty. Starfish also provides students with the opportunity to schedule in-person appointments with instructors and advisors online, access their student success network and easily find contact information for campus offices.
Training can be requested by contacting Jennifer Brown at 775-327-2079. All faculty will have access to a course within WebCampus called Starfish for Faculty and are also encouraged to attend Welcome Back Starfish training sessions in the fall. Date TBD.
