American Heart Association Courses at GBC!
Great Basin College offers several American Heart Association courses. These courses are offered in the Heartcode format. You will be required to complete online modules prior to attending the hands-on classroom portion. Below you will find course descriptions, upcoming class dates, instructions for payment, and links to the required online modules.
The American Heart Association Heartcode BLS course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills on adults and infants in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. Additional skills include the use of the AED, effective ventilations using a barrier device, and relief of choking.
Students are required to complete the "Heartcode BLS" online modules prior to attending the hands-on training session. The online module can be purchased at: https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls.
The American Heart Association Heartcode ACLS course is for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This course covers basic life support skills, recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest, peri-arrest conditions, airway management, related pharmacology, management of ACS and stroke, management of post-cardiac arrest, and effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team.
Students are required to complete the "Heartcode ACLS" online modules prior to attending the hands-on training session. The online module can be purchased at: https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-acls.
The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course is intended to develop knowledge and skills for personnel staffing emergency, intensive care, or critical care departments. This ACLS course is intended for licensed and credentialed healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency. Unlicensed personnel are not able to take this course.
The American Heart Association Heartcode PALS course is geared towards healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units. This course prepares healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in pediatric patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high-performance team dynamics and high-quality individual skills. The course covers infant and child CPR, airway management, related pharmacology, interventions for respiratory distress and failure, identification and management of compensated and decompensated shock, recognition and management of cardiac arrest, management of unstable and stable patients with arrythmias, and post-cardiac arrest management.

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is intended to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage critically ill infants and children. This PALS course is intended for licensed and credentialed healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency. Unlicensed personnel are not able to take this course.

One of our HSHS department admins will reach out to you with Registration and Class details and will add you to the sign up list. You will only be added to the class roster once you register for the class.
