About 4,000 students are enrolled annually online from across the country and on campuses and centers across 86,500 square miles, two time zones, and ten of Nevada's largest counties. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump on March 27th, 2020. The CARES Act provides Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare).
Great Basin College signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on April 14, 2020 acknowledging that GBC would use no less than 50% of the total funds ($470,060) received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
Great Basin College was awarded $235,030 to be used and distributed to students affected under the CARES Act.
To date, GBC has distributed $235,030 of the amount received to 469 students.
The estimated total number of students at GBC eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 is 1,028.

Based on guidance from the Department of Educations, GBC has allocated the CARES Act Emergency grant funding under Section 18004(a)(1) automatically to all eligible students attending the spring 2020 semester who qualify under the following criteria:
Great Basin College awarded eligible students’ who were in at least 6 credits and less than 12 credits $400. Eligible students’ who were enrolled in 12 or more credits during the spring 2020 semester were awarded $550.
All students enrolled during the spring 2020 semester received the following letter about the CARES Act.
