AT&T Funds Dual Enrollment Classroom Renovation at Battle Mountain High School

Join Great Basin College and Battle Mountain High School on May 3rd at 4:00 pm for a ribbon cutting and to learn more about the dual enrollment classroom and educational opportunities available to students. Through funding support from AT&T, the Great Basin College Foundation and Battle Mountain High School will take steps to renovate the dual enrollment classroom and provide a more comfortable, accessible learning space for students.

“Supporting our rural Nevada students through investment-based learning opportunities is a priority for our company and sows into the students’ immediate benefits for long-term success,” said Stephanie Taylor, state president Nevada and the Pacific states for AT&T. “We’ve supported the dual enrollment program at Great Basin College for several years and this is just another example of what can be accomplished through strong public-private partnerships. It’s a commitment we’re proud to stand behind as we help build tomorrow’s leaders.”

Dual enrollment programs are educational opportunities for high school students to begin taking college coursework while maintaining their high school enrollment. Great Basin College offers dual enrollment courses in a variety of instruction models including live instruction in a classroom, Interactive Virtual (IAV) education where a teacher and students join synchronically from classrooms at various GBC campuses, online, and hybrid. The Battle Mountain High School Dual Enrollment Classroom is traditionally used for IAV instruction, where an instructor is located on a separate GBC campus and students, including those in Battle Mountain, attend class and receive instruction in real time over video.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students at Battle Mountain High School to receive additional access to higher education without the burden of traveling to a GBC campus,” said Becky Coleman, Director of the Great Basin College Winnemucca and Battle Mountain Centers. “GBC’s mission to provide access to education for all of rural Nevada is strengthened by this generous donation from AT&T and the renovation of this classroom for our Battle Mountain students.”

Great Basin College, “The Gold Standard in the Silver State”, celebrates students while offering associate and bachelor’s degrees in academic, career, and technical education areas. GBC serves students enrolled online from across the country and on campuses and centers across 86,500 square miles, two time zones, and ten of Nevada’s largest counties. Branch campuses also serve the communities of Battle Mountain, Ely, Pahrump, and Winnemucca. Satellite centers are located in nearly 20 communities across rural Nevada. We border Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and California.
