Academic Standing and Your GPA

Your scholastic standing is computed based on all courses attempted. GBC uses the four-point system in computing your grade-point average, or GPA. Under this system, you receive four quality grade-points for each semester hour with the grade of A; three points for each semester hour of B; two points for each semester hour of C; one point for each semester hour of D. The following is an example:

If you repeat a course, the highest grade you received determines your cumulative average. In most cases, you do not receive duplicate credit for repeated classes. Incompletes, designated by I, are tentative marks and are not used in computing your GPA.

You must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to graduate. Your GPA is based on the total credits you have taken at Great Basin College. Your grade-point average can be determined by combining the points received for all your GBC courses and dividing that total by the total number of graded credits.
