Mental Health Expo

We hope you will join us in connecting with partners in the mental health community and our local creative resources.

When:

  • Expo open to all Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm
  • Please arrive between 9:00-9:30 a.m. to allow for set up. EHS Hope Squad will be on hand to help.

Where:

  • Leonard Center for Student Life on the GBC Elko campus (1500 College Pkwy)

Expo Events:

  • 20+ Mental Health Resource Vendors
  • Arts, Music, and Craft Activities
  • Raffle Prizes!
  • Native American drumming by Jeremiah Jones
  • Arts projects led by GBC ceramics and jewelry instructors
  • GBC Continuing Ed will be on hand to discuss class offerings for the community (pickleball, ceramics, jewelry, youth fitness).
  • GBC mental and physical health program advisors will be available to answer questions on programs related to mental health
  • Lantern painting hosted by SGA
  • GBC tours will be offered on the hour beginning at (11 am, 12 pm, and 1 pm)

Post Expo Events:

  • Valerie Cauhape will present on how the public can engage in policymaking with regard to mental health policy (Time TBD).

What is Mental Wellness?

The World Health Organization provides a mental wellness definition: "A state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community."

BetterMynd Teletherapy

BetterMynd provides enrolled GBC students, 18 and older, with up to 5 FREE telehealth counseling sessions with a licensed, insured counselor, and 1 wellbeing workshop each semester, to help support them through any challenges they may be facing. BetterMynd is funded in part by a generous donation from the Elko Federal Credit Union.

How GBC Students Access BetterMynd

  1. Fill out GBC Eligibility and Consent form
  2. Create a BetterMynd login.
  3. Complete a short questionnaire.
  4. Choose a counselor and set up a session or workshop!

Wellbeing Workshops are one hour group workshops live on Zoom, led by mental health experts in the BetterMynd counselor network.

LivingWorks Start

LivingWorks Start provides suicide prevention skills in a online learning platform to learn anytime, anywhere. The FREE 90-minute online training teaches a powerful four-step model to keep someone safe from suicide, and provides the chance to practice with impactful simulations.

Normally $39.95 per enrollment, GBC students, employees and alumni can attend LivingWorks Start for free through December 31, 2024. Email arysta.sweat@gbcnv.edu to receive an invite link for LivingWorks Start.
