Can current issues of newspapers and magazines be checked out?
 Yes, current and past issues of any newspaper or magazine can be checked out to students and faculty for 7 days. 

How do I check out library materials?
You can check out library materials by applying for a library card. You can apply for a library card in person or on the Great Basin College website by filling out our Online Library Card Application.

How long can I borrow a DVD? Is there a limit to how many DVDs I can check out?
DVDs can be checked out for 7 days.  Students can only check out three DVDs at once.

I borrowed a book from GBC library, and I've lost it, what should I do?
Report any lost library items to the circulation desk in person or by calling 775-753-2281. You will have the option to pay a replacement fee for the lost item or to purchase a new copy of the lost item.  Students who fail to clear their library account or do not contact the library about losing their borrowed library items will receive a hold on their MYGBC account until their library account has been cleared.

I received a bill for overdue books that is incorrect. What should I do?
If you receive an incorrect bill for overdue library items, please contact the GBC Library by phone at 775-753-2281. A librarian will be happy to assist you to resolve the issue.

I received a notice for a book I already returned. What should I do?
If you receive a notice for a library item you already returned, please contact the GBC Library by phone at 775-753-2281. We will do everything we can to search for the returned item in our library.

May I renew my books online?
Yes, you can renew your books on the GBC Library website by clicking Renew Library Materials

What are the overdue item fines and fees?
20¢ /day per item for most items. $5 per day for DVD’s and videos.

What does it mean when a book is “non-circulating”?
A library item that is labeled “non-circulating” cannot be removed from the library. Students or faculty wanting to checkout a “non-circulating” item must be granted approval from a GBC Librarian.

Where can I pay my fines and fees?
Library fines/fees can be paid in person at the library circulation desk or can be paid by sending a check in the mail to the GBC library. The library ONLY accepts cash and checks.

Where can I return books?
 Books can be returned in the library Dropbox inside McMullen Hall or at the Circulation desk.

Database and eBook Access

How do I log in to use the library databases and eBooks?
To log onto the databases and the eBooks use your username and password that you use to log-in to any GBC campus computer. If you have forgotten your student ID or if your password has expired please visit the User ID and Password Center or call the GBC help desk at 775-753-2167.

I don't know my student ID number. Is there a way I can find my student ID number so I can use the databases and eBooks?

Interlibrary Loan Questions

Do I have to pay for Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service?
Interlibrary Loan is a free service for students and faculty.

How do I renew an item requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Please contact the GBC Library at 775-753-2223 to request a renewal for an Interlibrary Loan item.

How do I submit an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request?
Students and faculty wanting to submit an Interlibrary Loan request can fill

How long does it take to receive an item requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Items requested through Interlibrary Loan are usually received between 5-10 business days. Articles are usually received between 1-2 business days.

How much time will I have to use the materials that I borrowed though Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Most materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan can be checked out for 20-30 days.

How will I know when my Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request has arrived?
You will be notified by phone or by email when your Interlibrary Loan is ready for pick-up.

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Inter-Library Loan (ILL) is a service that gives GBC students and faculty enhanced access and delivery of research and instructional materials.

Where do I pick up the item I requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Students and faculty located on the Elko campus may pick up their requested Interlibrary Loan at the Library Circulation Desk Students and faculty located on the Pahrump, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, or Ely campuses may pick-up their requested Interlibrary loan at their site campus.

Where should the item I borrowed through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) be returned?
Please return items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan in the library book return (located inside McMullen Hall), or by returning them to the library circulation desk.

Who may use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service?
Students and faculty are allowed to request items through Interlibrary loan.

Photocopying

Can I get photocopies of articles from periodicals?
The library has a public copy machine located on the first floor of the library. Photocopies can be made for 10¢ per page.

How can I purchase or refill a Copy Card?
Copy Card can be purchased at the library Circulation Desk

How much do photocopies cost?
10¢ per page

What is a Copy Card?
A copy card allows students, faculty, and visitors to make multiple photocopies at a discounted price.

Where can I find a photocopier?
There is a copy machine on the first floor of the library.

Where can I send and/or receive a fax?
The library does not provide faxing service. If you need to send or receive a fax please contact Media Services at 7775-753-2103.

Printing in the Library Questions

How can I print in the library?
Students and faculty have free printing privileges only for materials that are school-related. If students and faculty wish to print anything that is not school related, they must pay .10¢ per every page printed. 

How can I report a printer problem?
If you have trouble printing, please notify the circulation desk immediately! Library staff will make sure the problem is resolved.

Where are the double-sided printers located?
The library has one printer available for double-sided printing.

Where can I send and/or receive a fax?
The library does not provide faxing services. If you need to send or receive a fax please contact Media Services at 775-753-2103

Who can print?
Anyone can use the library’s printing services, but there are printing fees that must be followed. Students and faculty can print with no charge, as long the prints are school related. Students and faculty who need to print materials that are not school related, must pay a fee of .10¢ for every page printed. Library visitors wishing to print must pay a fee of .10¢ for every page printed.

Research Help Questions

How can I get help with learning how to use the library?
The librarians at the GBC library are always happy to help anyone interested in learning how to use their library! You can ask for help at the library circulation desk or you can contact us by phone at 775-753-2222 or by email at gbc-library@gbcnv.edu. Our team wants to help you!

Are there librarians who can help me with my research?
Yes! The GBC library employees are always happy to help with your research needs! You can come in for help anytime during the library's hours of operation or you can schedule a time to meet with a reference librarian by calling the circulation desk at 775-753-2222.

Are there scanners available for use in the Libraries?
The library has one public scanner available on the first floor.

Visitors and Guests Questions Visitors

I am a student at a university in another state.  May I use GBC Library resources?
Visitors are welcome to apply for a library card to beable to borrow library items.

I am not a GBC student. May I still borrow items form the GBC Library?
Yes! Vistors can borrow books for 14 days and can borrow DVDs for 7 days.

I am not a GBC student. Do I have computer access?
Of course! Visitors and guests have computer access, but must check in at the circulation desk. 

Where is the Library located at the GBC Elko campus?
The GBC Library is located at 1500 College Parkway in McMullen Hall.

May visitors print using the library computers?
Visitors may print, but must pay 10¢ per page.
